Vlajka Spojených štátov

Sľub vernosti alebo prísaha vernosti vlajke Spojených štátov amerických (anglicky: The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America) je prísahou lojality Američanov svojej krajine. Pôvodný text napísal Francis Bellamy už v roku 1832. So sľubom sa možno stretnúť na mnohých rôznych verejných akciách, v niektorých štátoch recitujú sľub vlajke študenti a učitelia základných a stredných škôl každé ráno (napr. v štáte New York).

Počas recitácie prísahy je nutné stáť v pozore s pravou rukou na srdci. Civilisti stoja s obnaženou hlavou čelom k vlajke. Uniformované osoby sľub nerecitujú, iba salutujú.

Text prísahy

Súčasný text prísahy vernosti používaný od roku 1954:

„

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

Prisahám vernosť vlajke Spojených štátov amerických a republike, ktorú predstavuje (symbolizuje): jeden nedeliteľný národ, pred Bohom, so slobodou a spravodlivosťou pre všetkých.
