On January 1 we celebrate Public Domain Day as many works of authors who died 70+ years ago now enter the public domain and can be used freely.

Let us be aware: copyright is temporary. It only lasts during the authors lifetime and 70 years afterwards (in most countries). During those years it is limiting Wikipedia and her sister projects in showing works of art, literature, public art and buildings in countries without freedom of panorama, and more in the articles. But now a new batch is freed from copyrights!

An overview of images and texts that are restored or added to the Wikimedia Commons, are collected on: this page.

Many of these files still need a place in articles. You can help!

You can also help by uploading new files of subjects that are freed of copyrights.
You can also help by tagging all requests for deletion pages with the category when the file can be restored, which will be/was deleted.

As I follow the log of restored files this week, more images and texts will follow. If still files or texts are missing in the list, let me know or add them yourselves.

Súťaž v písaní článkov zo stredo- a východo-európskeho regiónu

Informujem, že je pripravovaná medzinárodná, viacjazyčná, viacwikiová súťaž v písaní článkov s tematickým zameraním na región strednej a východnej Európy. Viaceré otázky sa ešte riešia, nie je presne ustavená štruktúra ale projekt sa pripravuje. Informáciu sú dostupné na Mete: meta:Wikimedia CEE Spring 2015.

V rámci projektu by sme radi spravili zoznam približne 100 článkov o Slovensku a slovenskej kultúre, ktoré by mali byť v každej dobrej Wikipédii. Účastníkom to pomôže spoznať najhodnotnejšie klenoty iných krajín a kultúr, ktoré sa takto budú prezentovať do zahraničia. O takomto slovenskom zozname neviem, máme niečo pripravené? Si ma zrovna predbehol. :) Máš naplánované nejaké miesto kde by sme ho mohli začať vytvárať? V zozname by mali byť články ktoré buď ešte neexistujú alebo nie sú v dostatočnej kvalite na slovenskej Wikipédii alebo aj také ktoré sú dobré tu a mali by byť preložené do iných Wikipédií?--Jetam2 (diskusia) 14:51, 3. február 2015 (UTC)

Zoznam sa môže vytvárať priamo na stránke, ktorú som odkázal vyššie Mali by tam byť zastúpené témy všeobecne (a pokiaľ možno dlhodobo) významné pre Slovensko a slovenskú kultúru, bez ohľadu na (momentálnu) kvalitu spracovania. Čiže napríklad Fujara tam bude určite keďže je na zozname UNESCO, aj napriek skromnému spracovaniu. --KuboF (diskusia) 21:18, 3. február 2015 (UTC)

Česko-slovenská Wikipédia v roku 2014

Neviem, kam to napísať (na českej Wikipédii na to máme kroniku), preto to píšem aspoň sem:

V roku 2014 bolo na slovenskej Wikipédii vytvorených 7944 článkov. Z nich 2037, tj. 25,6 % (každý štvrtý), vzniklo prekladom z češtiny v rámci wikiprojektu Česko-slovenská Wikipédia.

Stewards confirmation rules

Hello, I made a proposal on Meta to change the rules for the steward confirmations. Currently consensus to remove is required for a steward to lose his status, however I think it's fairer to the community if every steward needed the consensus to keep. Pripomienkovanie pravidiel súťaže v písaní článkov

V rámci Wikimedie SK pripravujeme slovenskú časť medzinárodnej súťaže v písaní článkov o tématike strednej a východnej Európy. Pri tvorbe pravidiel som bral do úvahy aj pripomienky z minulých súťaží, hlavne ohľadom zachovania anonymity a prekladov. Prekladanie hodnotím ako zaujímavý spôsob získania pomerne kvalitného obsahu pomerne jednoducho a preto som ho v pravidlách výslovne povolil a to aj s pomocou strojových pomôcok. Prekladateľov to však bude niečo stáť, keďže preklad by bol hodnotený výrazne slabšie.

Rád by som poznal názor komunity na terajšiu verziu pravidiel. Keďže súťaž je mierne oneskorená, rád by som dostal pripomienky skoro. Ďalšie podrobnosti súťaže prídu onedlho. --KuboF (diskusia) 23:17, 13. apríl 2015 (UTC)

Vďaka Bubamara! Akurát pozerám, že som niečo nedomyslel, lebo sa správa zobrazuje len prihláseným. Možno by bolo vhodnejšie správu umiestniť do MediaWiki:Anonnotice aby ju videli aj neprihlásení. KuboF, ani mne sa správa nezobrazuje, ak nie som prihlásená. Čítala som toto Diskusia k MediaWiki:Sitenotice#nezobrazovať a asi som to zle pochopila, myslela som, že neregistrovaní správu vidia? Hmm, mám takého tušáka, že pri tej zmene, ktorú Nemo spomína, bola upravená konfigurácia a Sitenotice sa od vtedy nezobrazuje neprihláseným... Tak to by teda asi bolo vhodnejšie predsa ten oznam umiestniť do MediaWiki:Anonnotice (aj keď je otázka čo sa bude zobrazovať prihláseným).

To počítadlo sa používa pri zmene sitenoticu. Keď návštevník klikne na ten odkaz "nezobrazovať" tak sa mu ďalšie sitenotice nezobrazujú. A práve zvýšením čísla v danom počítadlo sa to návštevníkovi opäť zobrazí. --KuboF (diskusia) 22:05, 17. apríl 2015 (UTC)

Bolo by možné nastaviť ten baner aby ho videli aj neprihlásení? Súhlasíte s tým? V minulých súťažiach bolo veľa príspevkov, ktoré kvalitou neveľmi vynikali a predpokladám, že čiastočne pre veľmi úzku tematickú oblasť (proste ľudia napísali aspoň niečo o veci v ktorej sa nevyznali). Teraz má súťaž naschvál veľmi široký tematický záber aby doterajší čitatelia mohli prispieť niečim, čo ich naozaj zaujíma a (v rámci možností) sa v tom vyznajú (a teda by kvalita snáď bola vyššia). Bolo by to tiež dobrým indikátorom pre Wikimediu SK ako organizovať súťaže tak aby naozaj privábili ľudí (a zvlášť zvonku) a príspevky boli kvalitné. --KuboF (diskusia) 19:48, 9. máj 2015 (UTC)

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. Hlavná cena pre WikiJar SVE

Wikimedia SK vybrala hlavnú cenu do súťaže v písaní článkov WikiJar SVE: štipendium na letné stretnutie Wikipediánov zo strednej a východnej Európy v Skopje v Macedónsku!

Program stretnutia pripravuje medzinárodný tím z wiki-organizácií zo strednej a východnej Európy, pričom na pripomienky a návrhy je ešte miesto.

Súťaž potrvá do konca mája a zatiaľ sa zúčastnilo len "pár statočných", preto máte ešte stále veľkú šancu na úspech. Pywikibot compat will no longer be supported - Please migrate to pywikibot core

Sorry for English, I hope someone translates this.
Pywikibot (then "Pywikipediabot") was started back in 2002. In 2007 a new branch (formerly known as "rewrite", now called "core") was started from scratch using the MediaWiki API. The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

HTTPS

Apologies for writing in English.

Hi everyone.

Over the last few years, the Wikimedia Foundation has been working towards enabling HTTPS by default for all users, including unregistered ones, for better privacy and security for both readers and editors. This has taken a long time, as there were different aspects to take into account. Our servers haven't been ready to handle it. The Wikimedia Foundation has had to balance sometimes conflicting goals.

Forced HTTPS has just been implemented on all Wikimedia projects. Some of you might already be aware of this, as a few Wikipedia language versions were converted to HTTPS last week and the then affected communities were notified.

Most of Wikimedia editors shouldn't be affected at all. If you edit as registered user, you've probably already had to log in through HTTPS. We'll keep an eye on this to make sure everything is working as it should. Do get in touch with us if you have any problems after this change or contact me if you have any other questions.

What is going on?

In the European Parliament a proposal (amendment) has been submitted to limit the Freedom of Panorama in Europe. The proposal is part of a larger plan to harmonize the copyright law in the various countries of the European Union.

If this proposal is adopted and implemented, it will mean that users on Wikipedia are no longer allowed to upload photographs of modern buildings or public works of art and use them in Wikipedia.

Even if freedom of panorama is allowed only for non-commercial purposes, this is an issue for Wikipedia. The current license under what we write Wikipedia, CC-BY-SA, is not compatible with non-commercial licenses, as they would restrict the re-use of the content.

Freedom of panorama?

Photos of modern buildings and public art currently may be uploaded on Commons / Wikipedia and used in articles, only if those pictures were taken in a country that currently has freedom of panorama (FoP), at this moment 16 of the 28 EU countries.

• EU countries with freedom of panorama: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark*, Finland*, Germany, Ireland, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and United Kingdom. (* = only for buildings)
• EU countries without freedom of panorama: Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania, and Slovenia.

Yes! By making known what impact this amendment has to Wikipedia and what damage it can cause to Wikipedia. In recent years it has come to our attention that many politicians do not even know that it is forbidden to publish on their website a photo of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, without the prior permission of the architect. So in the first place creating awareness is important.

Therefore a CentralNotice banner is prepared and a landing page. If you like, you can create a landing page, just like sv:Wikipedia:Panoramafrihet or de:Wikipedia:Initiative für die Panoramafreiheit.

What can I do?

• Send an e-mail to one or more Members of the European Parliament from your country/area (list of members on Wikipedia and list of the members on the site of the European Parliament (on the page of each member is the e-mail address linked)).
• Send a tweet to one or more Members of the European Parliament from your country/area (or re-tweet) in your language. Ask them for example if they really want Wikipedia to be backed-out or stripped of thousands of images. Or send a tweet to political groups in the parliament or a general tweet about the subject. Examples: 1, 2, 3.

Zachráňme spolu slobodu panorámy!

Ako už informoval kolega, v Európe sa schyľuje k problému. Ak by Európsky parlament 9. júla schválil správu o autorských právach s pozmeňujúcim návrhom 421 tak by sme prišli o slobodu panorámy nie len na Slovensku ale v celej Európskej únii. Pre Wikipédiu by to malo neblahé dôsledky, lebo by sme skoro iste museli vymazať desaťtisíce fotiek moderných budov, sôch a iných diel, ktoré sa momentálne na Wikipédii nachádzajú úplne legálne.

Vo Wikimedii SK tému práve riešime, pripravujeme informačnú kampaň ale potrebujeme vašu pomoc!

Je niekoľko vecí, ktorými môžte pomôcť priamo na wiki:

• napísať / preložiť článok Sloboda panorámy, napr. podľa cs:Svoboda panoramatu
  • pridať do článku informácie o aktuálnej situácii
• preložiť z angličtiny meta:Free knowledge based on Creative Commons licenses/sk - brožúrka o tom, prečo "len na nekomerčné použitie" často krát neslúži svojmu zamýšľanému cieľu a čo to znamená pre Wikipédiu
• nájsť niekoľko zaujímavých Slovenských budov / sôch / podobných diel, ktoré boli postavené len nedávno (a teda, od smrti autora neuplynulo 70 rokov) - odporúčam vybrať fotky z Commons (mne napríklad napadá skokanský mostík pri Štrbskom plese alebo Svätoplukova socha na Bratislavskom hrade)
  • na takej fotke začierniť / inak scenzúrovať danú budovu / sochu - ľudia budú mať jasnú predstavu ako škaredo a neužitočne by Wikipédia bez slobody panorámy fungovala
• plánuje sa centrálny baner pre všetky wiki-projekty, ktorý by sa zobrazoval pre návštevníkov z Európy
  • súhlasíte s takým banerom na slovenskej Wikipédii? ja som rozhodne za! tu stačí diskusia, ak máte námietky tak sa vyjadrite
• na niektorých Wikipédiách (minimálne na švédskej pripravujú gadget, ktorý by začiernil všetky obrázky a zobrazil informáciu o kampani, gadget by bol predvolene spustený pre všetkých a po prihlásení by si ho ľudia mohli vypnúť (neregistrovaní typicky o slobode panorámy ani netušia, ich by ten "otravný" text mohol poriadne osloviť)
  • chceme taký gadget aj na skwiki? po kampani by sa dal normálne vymazať
  • kódy: CSS, JS

Veľmi užitočná bude aj pomoc mimo Wikipédiu:

• kontaktujte svojho (alebo viacerých) europoslanca - vysvetlite im svoj názor na slobodu panorámy a požiadajte ho aby hájil vaše požiadavky
  • môžte im napísať elektronickú poštu, zavolať im, stretnúť sa osobne - kontakty sú napr. na europskyparlament.sk
  • verejne sa europoslancov spýtajte na ich sociálnych sieťach, napr. na Twittery alebo facebooku
  • tiež môžte kontaktovať ich materské strany
• napíšte o téme na svojom blogu, informujte médiá, známych

Dôležité stránky ne ničnetušiacich návštevníkov budú: meta:Freedom of Panorama in Europe in 2015 a meta:Freedom of Panorama in Europe in 2015/Learn more. Onedlho by mali byť dokončené a začali by sme s prekladom.

Kto sa o tematiku zaujíma intenzívnejšie by mohol skontrolovať aj súvisiace návrhy o ktorých bude Európsky parlament hlasovať. Dobrý štartovací bod je hodnotenie 10 najlepších a 5 najhorších zmien v správe od Redy.

Vo WMSK máme trochu rušné obdobie, pripravujeme tlačovú správu, oficiálne sa spýtame europoslancov (ale vy sa ich pýtajte tiež!); uvažujem o samostatnej webovej stránke o tejto téme a prípadne o niečom ako petícii. Práve sa spúšťa baner pre Európanov. Ako vstupnú stránku som nastavil Wikipédia:Sloboda panorámy v Európe 2015 ale nemám čas ju užehliť. Update 25 June:

• This evening we had a meeting to evaluate the political situation in Brussels and to determine if setting up a banner today would be effective. In these two weeks there are two critical points in the political process to get to a text that is safe for Wikipedia: before 1 July an MEP need to take action to get the text changed with sufficient support from other MEPs, and on 9 July the plenary voting in the European Parliament. We determined today that as a result of all our actions Wikimedia wide, we have generated enough attention to get the first step done. Congratulations! But this was the small step, the large one is the plenary voting.
• The question we asked ourselves is if we should already show a banner today. A banner on top of every Wikipedia page is a very powerful and sensitive instrument we should be carefully in using it, in timing and wording, certainly if it concerns a subject in the field of advocacy. Also it should be used as last resort. As said, we have arranged enough attention for point one. We also consider two weeks before the voting as too long, because when the banner is seen this week, it likely will be forgotten two weeks later. Therefore we consider it better to start with the banner on 2 July, after assessing how the situation has developed.
• We advice you not to set up a banner in this week already, but this is an advice. If your local community decides otherwise, this will be respected.

What is the plan now?

• We will asses the situation on 2 July, then we will set up a banner that day. This gives us also more time to get all the translations in the various European languages.
• We have asked the Wikimedia Foundation to come with an official statement. They have indicated that they will work on this and will come with an official statement and/or blog post on 2 July.
• But in the mean while just waiting? - No!

  • Send a tweet to an MEP, make it as personal as possible.

Status update 3 July 2015

It is going fast the past 24 hours and before. Therefore this update below, written bij my colleague Dimi_z who is for the Wikimedia movement following the political developments in the EU in the past weeks and years:

1. We have managed to find enough MEPs from various groups to file a positive amendment affirming Freedom of Panorama. The signatures were collected with the help of mainly the Dutch, German and Estonian ALDE members.

2. As a result of the big pressure we exercised and the fact that his own group publicly opposed him on this, Mr. Cavada has now called everyone in the European Parliament to vote to delete his wording, but also to oppose the amendment, as a compromise. It looks like there is a solid majority for this compromise.

3. Delegations form the second largest group, the S&D, have taken public positions against the Cavada text. They have however also let us know, that they wouldn't appreciate being cornered into voting for new (ALDE) amendment. The reasons they cite are mainly of procedural nature.

4. It would take a lot of pressure to get the positive amendment through. Such an aggressive campaign pushing for the absolute maximum this early on in the legislative process could, I am afraid, hurt our standing. Especially banners are only effective if they are used conservatively and there is an imminent threat. This threat is not given any longer, which we should all congratulate ourselves for. This is something we achieved! I want to personally thank each and every single one of the hundreds of people who worked on this.

5. We can still push for the positive amendment by ALDE! We can do this by writing and calling our MEPs personally and ask them to vote for it. We can also do this by joining the petition, which will ask all its signatories to to do the same.

6. What we can and should do now is invest in the contacts we established with MEPs and their assistants. Thank the ones who answered and promised to help! Invite them to a Wikipedia meet-up! Offer you expertise! Ask them to help you with FoP on the national level if you have none!

7. Maintaining contacts is also important, as the copyright reform dossier will come to the European Parliament sometime next year. If we make friends now, it will make our lives much easier next time around.

8. The vote on 9 July will go down as follows: First the positive amendment by ALDE will be voted on, then after that the "split" (meaning deletion) of the FoP paragraph. If the positive amendment passes, we would need the deletion to be rejected. If the positive amendment is rejected, we need the deletion to get a majority.

So Dimi and the rest of the team advices not to activate the CentralNotice banner in Slovak and also not to create a Sitenotice banner instead.

It is up to the community to decide if a banner should be activated in Slovak.

Voting: outcomes

Today the European Parliament voted about the copyright report, including the subject Freedom of Panorama.

• The negative text by Cavada (Freedom of Panorama only non-commercial in whole EU) was dropped by 502 to 40.
• The positive text by Schaake (full Freedom of Panorama in whole EU) didn't pass by 228 to 303.
• The report as a whole was accepted with 445 to 65 with 32 abstentions.

Thanks everyone, we almost manage to achieve a full swing, which is a very tough feat to get done in 3 weeks.

What is next?
Autumn 2015: European Commission planned proposal on a renewed EU Directive.

Tiež ďakujem všetkým, ktorí svojou troškou prispeli k tomuto úspechu!

Vo Wikimedii SK budeme situáciu naďalej sledovať, hlavne k jeseni, keď Európska komisia predloží svoj návrh. Predpokladám však, že vzhľadom k spoločenskému tlaku, ktorý bol vyvinutý, koncový návrh slobodu panorámy neobmedzí.

Zatiaľ môžte situáciu sledovať aj na samostatnej facebookovej stránke (a pozvať priateľov ;). Tiež, graficky schopní môžu na Wikipédii pohľadať pár obrázkov, ktoré by sme museli scenzúrovať, začierniť ich hlavnú tému a nahrať ich do c:Category:Blacked out versions of images relying on FoP in the Slovakia, tak ako fotku sochy Svätopluka napravo.

CHYBA WIKIPÉDIE

Dobrý večer prajem, rád by som poukázal na článok o Alanovi M. Turingovi "Dejiny počítačov", je tam chyba ! píše sam tam citujem: V roku 1936 Alan M. Turing publikoval článok, v ktorom vysvetľuje svoju myšlienku o univerzálnej elektronickej kalkulačke s názvom Turingov stroj. Stroj mal byť schopný vyriešiť ľubovoľnú výpočtovú a logickú operáciu. Napriek tomu, že stroj nebol nikdy zostrojený jeho myšlienka sa použila na zostrojenie neskorších počítačov.

Musím vás opraviť, stroj bol zostrojený a podľa vedcov vďaka tomu bola skôr ukončená 2. svetová vojna.

Stačí kliknúť na odkaz Upraviť v hornej časti obrazovky. Nemusíš sa ani registrovať a prihlasovať (hoci je viacero dôvodov, pre ktoré by si to mal zvážiť). Komunita Wikipédie Ťa povzbudzuje k tomu, aby si bol smelý pri úprave stránok. Nemaj strach, že urobíš hlúpe chyby – určite sa nájde niekto, kto ich po Tebe opraví. Ak si nie si istý ako článok správne upravovať, pozri si najprv prehľad editácie stránok, alebo si vyskúšaj upravovanie článku nanečisto na našom pieskovisku. Noví prispievatelia sú vždy vítaní!

How a PNG thumb of this GIF would look like

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)

Wikidata: Access to data from arbitrary items is coming

(Sorry for writing in English)

When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects, there is currently a limitation in place that hinders some use cases: data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So, for example, the Wikipedia article about Berlin can only get data from the Wikidata item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. We are now removing this limitation. It is already done for many projects. Your project is one of the next ones. We will roll out this feature here on August 12.

We invite you to play around with this new feature if you are one of the people who have been waiting for this for a long time. If you have technical issues/questions with this you can come to d:Wikidata:Contact the development team.

A note of caution: Please be careful with how many items you use for a single page. If it is too many pages, loading might get slow. We will have to see how the feature behaves in production to see where we need to tweak and how.

Wiki stretnutie strednej a východnej Európy 2015

Zdravím. Wikimedia SK bola opäť pozvaná na Stretnutie wikimédií strednej a východnej Európy, ktoré prebehne v septembri 2015 v Estónsku. Prihlásili 3 záujemcovia: Matej Grochal, Radka Semanová a ja. S týmito ľuďmi počítame ako s reprezentantmi WMSK.

Potešili by ma aj viacerí záujemcovia ale som rád, že sa našli 2 "noví" ľudia, ktorí sa na takomto podujatí ešte nezúčastnili "na plný čas". Pred a počas stretnutia s mini budem intenzívne preberať program a našu účasť a "zasvätím" ich do medzinárodného hnutia a kontaktov. Následne by sme mohli mať viacero ľudí, ktorí by kvalifikovane reprezentovali WMSK na podobných podujatiach aby som na konferencie nechodil vždy len ja.

Program je ešte otvorený a ak je niečo, na čo by sme sa, podľa vás, mali špeciálne zamerať, prosím napíšte nám (či už priamo tu na Wikipédii, do epoštovej konferencie WMSK alebo súkromne do WMSK)!

Wikimedia SK plánuje v roku 2016 zorganizovať už druhý ročník slovenskej Wikikonferencie, kde by sme sa radi stretli s mnohými z vás. O tom však neskôr.

• Newspaperarchive.com - historical newspapers from the United States, Canada, UK and 20 other countries, and includes an Open Access "clipping" feature (1000 accounts)
• IMF Elibary- a digital collection of the IMF's reports, studies and research on global economics and development (50 accounts)
• Sabinet - one of the largest African digital publishers, based in South Africa, with a wide range of content in English and other European and African languages (10 accounts)

Projekt WikiMesto Nitra

Wikimedia SK v spolupráci s mestom Nitra a E@I pracujú na projekte Nitra - prvé slovenské WikiMesto. V rámci projektu sme vybrali skupinu významných objektov v Nitre, o ktorých ľudia z mestského úradu v Nitre (za asistencie Wikimedie SK) napíšu článok na slovenskú Wikipédiu alebo ho vylepšia. Následne budú články preložené do viacerých jazykov a pridané obrázky. Tiež pripravujeme plán na efektívne predstavenie článkov pre obyvateľov a návštevníkov Nitry; predpokladáme použitie QRpédie. Nitra je prvou realizáciou rozsiahlejšieho projektu WikiMesto a na základe skúseností z Nitry sa budeme rozhodovať o pokračovaní projektu.

Dnes idem pomôcť kolegom v Nitre s upravovaním Wikipédie, onedlho by mali začať prispievať článkami. Preto vás prosím o pomoc s formálnou úpravou zoznamu objektov, hlavne teda kontrolu, či je navrhnutý názov vhodný. Vopred ďakujem za pomoc. --KuboF (diskusia) 23:06, 23. september 2015 (UTC)

pisem cez mobil, takze bez diakritiky. Drzim palce a som zvedavy, co z toho vylezie. Pripomienky - chyba mi tam Nitriansky hrad. Ten clanok nie je sice zky, ale urcite sa da zlepsit. Za druhe (a mozno nacinam aj sirsiu debatu) asi by bolo vhodne, aby z nadpisu bolo jasne, ci je clanok o budove, alebo o institucii. Kedze clanky budu (dufam) rozsiahlejsie, tak asi by mali mat v nazve "budova", aby bolo jasne, ze sa nejedna o instituciu (napr. Agrokomplex, VSP, ale aj divadlo A. Bagara). Este detail, v Nitre su oddavna aspon dve farnosti, takze asi by malo byt jasne o ktoru budovu sa jedna (tusim dolne mesto a horne mesto ale teraz bez zaruky). --LacoR (diskusia) 06:01, 24. september 2015 (UTC)

Este dalsie drobnosti. V tom zozname by bolo dobre nechat nazvy aj s rozlisenim, nech je hned vidiet o aky nazov ide. Chyba mi tam clanok Kalvaria (Nitra) a kedze su tam clanky o bjektoch Kalvarie, tak to treba aj do tej suhrnnej stranky zapracovat. A mzno by bolo dobre ten zoznam nejako zotriedit geograficky, popripade pod clanok o hrade odsadit clanky o katedrale, palaci, muzeu... rozlisovacka pri kostole pod kalvariou nemoze byt kalvaria a ani Parovske Haje ma nenaplna nadsenim. Súhlasím s Lacom. Myslím, že by bolo užitočnejšie mať články o inštitúciách (divadlo, múzeá...) ako o ich budovách, ale i tak dobré. Pevne dúfam, že sa do článkov dostanú aj referencie. Veľa zdaru!--Jetam2 (diskusia) 07:08, 24. september 2015 (UTC)

Vďaka za pripomienky LacoR! Na hrad a kalváriu sa ešte pozrieme. Projekt je stavaný tak aby články v projekte obsahovali užitočné informácie pre návštevníkov Nitry, podľa toho bude vybrané rozlíšenie. Upravil som zoznam tak aby bolo rozlíšenie viditeľné. Ak vidíte nejaké problémy, napr. namiesto "Justičný palác (Nitra)" použiť "Justičný palác v Nitre" alebo namiesto "Diecézne múzeum v Nitre" radšej "Diecézne múzeum (Nitra)" tak buďte smelí pri úprave stránok Prípadné pripomienky k zoznamu radi uvítame na diskusnej stránke zoznamu, ale zmeny v zozname zaručiť rozhodne nemôžme. Privítajte nové redaktorky! Pred chvíľou som spravil základný rýchlokurz prispievania na Wikipédiu pre 2 nové prispievateľky v rámci projektu: Redaktor:Lucik27 a Redaktor:Tekelica. V rámci projektu už spravili aj prvú skúšobnú úpravu; je dosť jednoduchá lebo na ňu nebolo veľa času a kolegyne si museli tému vybrať veľmi rýchlo. Dohodli sme sa, že prvé články vypracujú spoločne vo svojom pieskovisku a dajú mi ich na kontrolu. Reimagining WMF grants report

Wikiproject Erasmus Prize Winners

Dear fellow wikipedians,

My apologies for using English here, please help translate if you are able.
Wikipedia has been awarded the Erasmus Prize 2015. This prize is awarded annually to a person or institution that has made an exceptional contribution to culture, society or social science. The King of the Netherlands will present the award on 25 November. This will create media attention which will hopefully result in plenty of new volunteers. Prior to the award ceremony we would like to write and improve articles on former Erasmus Prize winners. All 80 former laureates should be notable enough to merit an article.

Please join the project and help us provide our fellow laureates with articles.

Community Wishlist Survey

Hi everyone! Apologies for posting in English. Translations are very welcome.

The Community Tech team at the Wikimedia Foundation is focused on building improved curation and moderation tools for experienced Wikimedia contributors. We're now starting a Community Wishlist Survey to find the most useful projects that we can work on.

For phase 1 of the survey, we're inviting all active contributors to submit brief proposals, explaining the project that you'd like us to work on, and why it's important. Phase 1 will last for 2 weeks. In phase 2, we'll ask you to vote on the proposals. Afterwards, we'll analyze the top 10 proposals and create a prioritized wishlist.

While most of this process will be conducted in English, we're inviting people from any Wikimedia wiki to submit proposals. We'll also invite volunteer translators to help translate proposals into English.

Your proposal should include: the problem that you want to solve, who would benefit, and a proposed solution, if you have one. You can submit your proposal on the Community Wishlist Survey page, using the entry field and the big blue button. We will be accepting proposals for 2 weeks, ending on November 23.

We're looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Wikimania 2016 scholarships ambassadors needed

Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.

If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

Hi everyone,

This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.

As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.

We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

Get involved in Wikipedia 15!

As many of you know, January 15 is Wikipedia’s 15th Birthday!

People around the world are getting involved in the celebration and have started adding their events on Meta Page. While we are celebrating Wikipedia's birthday, we hope that all projects and affiliates will be able to utilize this celebration to raise awareness of our community's efforts.

Haven’t started planning? Don’t worry, there’s lots of ways to get involved. Here are some ideas:

• Join/host an event. We already have more than 80, and hope to have many more.
• Talk to local press. In the past 15 years, Wikipedia has accomplished extraordinary things. We’ve made a handy summary of milestones and encourage you to add your own. More resources, including a press release template and resources on working with the media, are also available.
• Design a Wikipedia 15 logo. In place of a single icon for Wikipedia 15, we’re making dozens. Add your own with something fun and representative of your community. Just use the visual guide so they share a common sensibility.
• Share a message on social media. Tell the world what Wikipedia means to you, and add #wikipedia15 to the post. We might re-tweet or share your message!

Everything is linked on the Wikipedia 15 Meta page. You’ll find a set of ten data visualization works that you can show at your events, and a list of all the Wikipedia 15 logos that community members have already designed.

Wikimania 2016: call for proposals is open!

Dear Wiki[p,m]edians,
the call for proposals for Wikimania 2016 is open! All the members of the Wikimedia projects, researchers and observers are invited to propose a critical issue to be included in the programme of the conference, which will be held in Italy, in Esino Lario, from June 21 to 28.
Through this call we only accept what we call critical issues, i.e. proposals aiming at presenting problems, possible solutions and critical analysis about Wikimedia projects and activities in 18 minutes. These proposals do not need to target newbies, and they can assume attendees to already have a background knowledge on a topic (community, tech, outreach, policies...).
To submit a presentation, please refer to the Submissions page on the Wikimania 2016 website. Deadline for submitting proposals is 7th January 2016 and the selection of these proposals will be through a blind peer-reviewed process. Zahájili sme nové kolo Žiadostí o komentár(RFC) na tému, či zvýšiť požiadavky na heslo pre používateľov, ktorí majú účty, ktoré majú prístup k úprave a zmeneMediaWiki:Common.js, a ktore majú prístup k checkuseru alebo k Oversightu.

Tieto typy účtov majú delikátny prístup k našim stránkam a mohli by spôsobiť skutočné škody v prípade, že by sa dostali do nepravých rúk. V súčasnej dobe jedinou požiadavkou je, aby heslo bolo aspoň 1 znak dlhé. Radi by sme, aby minimálna dĺžka bola 8 znakov (bytov) a tiež zakázať niektoré naozaj bežné hesla.

Zvýšením požiadavok na heslá pre účty s vysokou úrovňou prístupu dúfame, že sa všetky wiki na Wikimedii stanú bezpečnejšimi pre každého. Prečítajte si prosím plné znenie návrhu tu a nechajte svoj hlas počuť na RFC
